About Joy and her practice

About Joy Dirham Ambro
Joy Dirham Ambro has been a licensed physical therapist for over 30 years and a Guild Certified Feldenkrais Practitioner(R) for 23 years. She has a private practice that opened in 2001 and is the only physical therapy practice, in the South Bay, that is focused on the use of the Feldenkrais Method of movement education.  The Feldenkrais Method offers you pain relief, improved range of motion, more effective strength training, improved posture, stabilized bone density, better balance and  more competitive athletic endeavors. In addition to  her private practice, Joy has a 19 year history of teaching Feldenkrais community classes.  For 14 years she taught at Beach Cities Health District and for 9 years she taught for Torrance Memorial Hospital.  Two years ago she moved her Bones for Life(TM) and Align the Spine classes to the Community Center at the Remedy Pharm in Torrance.

The Feldenkrais Method (R)

Created by Dr. Moshe Feldenkrais, this method re-awakens your brain, through gentle movement, to reclaim pain free, fluid movement. Your brain had the master plan that got you out of your crib and taught you to walk.  It refined that master plan to keep you moving.  Throughout your life the brain gave you the strategies for getting through injury, for succeeding with athletic/artistic endeavors, and for pushing through any compromised mobility.  These strategies, that worked when they were needed, may now impede full recovery or full functional mobility.  The Feldenkrais Method engages the nervous system to learn or re-learn components of movement that can provide a plan for life long active health and wellness. Joy has clients that have come to class, or seen her privately, for years due to the improved quality of life that her work has provided.
